Connect through Tor

Use BTC21’s dedicated Electrum onion service to reach the same public electrs index without exposing your network IP address to BTC21. This is a separate setup path from the standard TLS connection.

Before you connect

Your wallet must have a working Tor route: a built-in Tor client, a configured SOCKS5 proxy, or a supported companion such as Orbot. The QR code configures the server value; it does not turn Tor on for a wallet.

What is Tor, and why use it?

Tor routes a wallet connection through a privacy network so BTC21 does not receive your normal network IP address. It can be slower and it does not eliminate all wallet privacy tradeoffs. Read BTC21’s practical Tor guide →

Tor wallet setup

Sparrow Wallet

Desktop · built-in Tor support
  1. Open Preferences → Server and select Private Electrum Server.
  2. Enter wv54skkfix2drziyitwsqff4cubxyp7ijmypr7dgcepay7vhmn4li4ad.onion:50001.
  3. Use a plaintext/Tor connection. Sparrow starts its internal Tor proxy when an onion server is configured.

Electrum Desktop

Desktop · Windows, macOS, Linux
  1. Open Tools → Network; uncheck automatic server selection.
  2. Enter the onion host and port 50001; choose plaintext, represented by :t.
  3. Under Proxy, use SOCKS5 with your Tor proxy, normally 127.0.0.1:9050 or Tor Browser’s 127.0.0.1:9150.

BlueWallet

Mobile · iOS & Android
  1. Ensure BlueWallet has a Tor-capable network path before configuring the server. On Android this commonly means routing BlueWallet through Orbot.
  2. Open Settings → Network → Electrum Server and scan the BlueWallet QR from another device, or enter the server manually.
  3. The QR uses BlueWallet’s documented custom-server deep-link format; verify the onion hostname before saving.

Blockstream Green

  1. In App Settings, enable Connect with Tor and Personal Electrum Server.
  2. Enter wv54skkfix2drziyitwsqff4cubxyp7ijmypr7dgcepay7vhmn4li4ad.onion:50001.
  3. Set TLS off for this Tor endpoint. Tor supplies the encrypted transport; do not use the standard TLS port 50002 here.

Green’s server-setting import behavior varies by app release; the visible connection string remains the authoritative setup value.

Nunchuk

  1. Select an Electrum server backend in Nunchuk’s network settings.

  3. If your release exposes a Tor/SOCKS5 proxy setting, enable it before connecting. Use the standard BTC21 page if your mobile release lacks a Tor option.

Privacy and safety

Tor masks your network IP from BTC21, but an Electrum server still receives the script-hash queries needed to answer your wallet. BTC21 never needs your seed phrase, private key, wallet password, or recovery file. Verify the complete onion hostname before saving any setting.
